On Feb. 1-2, 2008, the ACC held its first ever Health System Reform Summit. The event brought together more than 100 health care professionals and individuals with a passionate interest in reforming the current systems of care for two days of discussion on the roles and responsibilities of health care providers in health system reform.
The Summit provided an opportunity for members to hear from leaders in the health care reform field on the role of the medical community and also on issues surrounding patient access to care and the financing of reform. In addition, the ACC's Blue Ribbon Panel released a draft exective summary aimed at defining key principles necessary for health system reform.

Lamphere of
AARP; Jane Delgado of the
National Alliance for Hispanic Health; Emily Friedman, an independent health policy and ethics analyst; and Catherine Hanson of the
American Medical Association. The Summit also featured presentations from Mark McClellan, M.D., former administrator for the
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and Carolyn Clancy, M.D., for the
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Former ACC Presidents James T. Dove, M.D., M.A.C.C., and Tim Garson, M.D., M.A.C.C. also spoke.
The ACC will hold its second Health System Reform Summit on Feb. 1-2, 2009, also in Washington, D.C. Check back for updates closer to the event.
